Ways to Contribute There are several ways for you to contribute. Gifts by cash, check or credit card: Are the simplest and the most direct way to support the Athletic Department. In almost every case, cash gifts are fully deductible if you itemize on your deferral income tax return. Appreciated securities: Produce a two-fold income tax benefit: a charitable deduction for the full present fair market value and no capital gains tax on the appreciation for stocks held more than a year. Matching Gifts: Enable you to double or even triple the value of your gift to the University. Many companies match their employees personal donations. Planned Giving: Allows you to provide a benefit to the University while providing you with tax benefits and a potential income source. Planned gifts include bequests, charitable gift trusts and gift of life insurance. Gifts of personal property and real estate: Such as residential and commercial property, may be accepted by Duquesne University. However, such donations are subject to special IRS rules and University policies. Gifts in Kind: Are a creative way to earn tax credit while helping Duquesne University. The University may accept equipment, artwork, rare books or other property that Duquesne can use in its educational mission. Gifts of patents and copyrights: Allow the University to apply the intellectual property of its alumni and donors for the advancement of students and researchers.
