Important Information about DAF Membership Benefits
Qualification for DAF Benefits: Only gifts made to the Athletic Director's discretionary fund, DAF unrestricted funds, DAF golf outing or event gifts, or donations designated for one or more of the currently-sponsored intercollegiate sports will be considered for DAF benefits. Donations designated for any other school, department, program or activity of Duquesne University will not be credited toward eligibility for DAF membership or upgrades to membership levels.
Men's Basketball Premium Seating: Purchase of season tickets in designated sections of the Palumbo Center requires a minimum $100 per seat donation to DAF. More details...
Quid Pro Quo: Federal laws require that the fair market value of benefits received be subtracted from the total amount of a contribution when calculating tax deductibility. Donors have the option to waive benefits if they wish to retain full tax deductibility. First-time donors making gifts to DAF of $100 or more (and those whose additional gifts in a calendar year result in an upgraded membership level) will receive an election form detailing the benefits applicable to the specified level and the fair market value of each benefit. The donor must sign and return the form, indicating whether he or she wishes to accept or decline benefits. If the form is not returned within the time allowed, it will be assumed that the donor has waived all benefits.
Multi-Year Pledges Toward Capital Projects: The fair market value of any benefits received will be subtracted from the total amount of your pledge payment for purposes of official tax acknowledgement. You have the option to waive benefits to receive full credit. When we receive your facilities pledge payments, we will send you an election form detailing the benefits applicable to the specified membership level and the fair market value of each benefit. You will need to sign and return the form, indicating whether you wish to accept or decline benefits. If you accept benefits, their value will be subtracted from the amount of your payment, and your gift will be credited as the difference. If the form is not returned within the time allowed, it will be assumed that you waive all benefits.
Acknowledgement Letters: All donors will receive formal written acknowledgement upon receipt of each gift. These letters will not include information related to the deductibility of the gift. Instead, DAF members will receive tax acknowledgement letters in January of the next calendar year, verifying the total of all gifts each individual made to DAF during the previous year, the fair market value of all benefits accepted, and the amount which may be deductible.
Benefits Period: All DAF donors who make gifts during a particular calendar year will receive their benefits in the following calendar year. Benefits related to basketball hospitality, parking and travel shall begin in the calendar year following a gift and extend through the entire season. A donor making a qualifying gift during calendar year 2012 will receive his or her DAF membership benefits during calendar year 2013. This will include basketball-related benefits during the season from November 2013 through March 2014.
