Department of Athletics Welcomes Student-Athletes Back to Campus
PITTSBURGH - The Department of Athletics held its second "Back to the Bluff BBQ" on Sunday afternoon on McCloskey Field.
The event welcomes DU's student-athletes back to campus with food, music, games and a chance to relax before the first day of classes.
"We had beautiful weather and a large number of our student-athletes were able to attend," said Director of Athletics Greg Amodio. "This is just a small way for the department to thank our student-athletes for the hard work they put in during the year both in competition and in the classroom."
Duquesne is coming off its top competitive year in school history with Atlantic 10 Championships in volleyball and women's cross country. Women's track also took second place in the A-10 indoor and outdoor championships. In addition, the football team won a share of the Northeast Conference title.
"We are looking to continue our run of success into this year," said Amodio, noting that volleyball and women's cross country were both picked as Atlantic 10 favorites in their respective preseason polls. "We have a great group of student-athletes here at Duquesne and this event is a small way for our staff to show our appreciation for all they do."
A number of Duquesne's teams will be in action this weekend. men's soccer opens its season at Marshall, women's soccer hosts Buffalo and volleyball opens in the Queen City Classic in Cincinnati on Friday. The football team opens at Buffalo on Saturday (ESPN3) and the men's and women's cross country teams make their debut in the Duquesne Duals on Saturday as well.
