Alvin Simpson is one of the Assistant Directors of Athletic Bands at Duquesne University. He is also Assistant Band Director at Burrell School District where he directs the football and basketball bands. Alvin is a 2nd year Graduate student perusing his Master of Music in Instrumental Performance(Trumpet) degree. He has his Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree from Seton Hill University (Greensburg, Pa).
His primary Trumpet instructors include: Dr. Theodore DiSanti (Associate Professor of Music at Seton HIll University) Charles Lirette (Co-Principal Trumpet, Pittsburgh Symphony) and Sean Jones (Lead Trumpet with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra). Alvin has performed and recorded with: Westmoreland Symphonic Winds (Where he held principal position in 2009), Duquesne University Wind Symphony, Pittsburgh Philharmonic, Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra, and the Westmoreland Choral Society. He is a proud member of MENC, PMEA, PMTA, and the ITG. He has performed and recorded with artists and composers such as: Charles Lirette, George Vosburgh, David Allen Wehr, Adam Liu, Steven Stucky, and David Maslanka.
In 2011, Alvin presented workshops on emerging technology in the Music Education classroom at the Annual PMTA Conference and as part of Seton Hill University's iTeach Conference.
