DU Sets Multiple Season Highs in 12-7 Win Over YSU
March 24, 2009
Duquesne's baseball team set season highs for runs, hits and home runs in Tuesday's 12-7 victory over visiting Youngstown State. All nine starters had hits for the Red and Blue including Rick Devereaux who was 3-5 with a home run and four RBI and Anthony Manley who was 3-6 with three RBI.
After a scoreless first inning, the Dukes exploded for six runs in the second inning to set the tone for the game. Chris Kimmeth led off the inning with a solo home run and Devereaux finished it off with a three run jack. Also homering in the game for the Red and Blue were Mark Tracy and Andrew Dobson.
A trio of freshmen combined for the pitching totals with starter Michael Pelekanos collecting his first collegiate win, tossing the first three shutout innings while allowing just one hit. Dobson's two-run homer in the eighth was also a college first for him.
DU will look to make it two in a row as they host Akron on Wednesday at 3:00 at Duquesne Field.
