Dukes Drop Getaway Game To St. Joe's, 4-3

April 6, 2003

Box Score

Norristown, PA - Duquesne's baseball team was unable to hold onto a 3-2 lead gained in the top of the ninth as St. Joseph's rebounded with two runs of their own to grab a 4-3 win in the deciding game of the Atlantic 10 weekend series at Elmwood Park in suburban Philadelphia. The Dukes are now 14-15, 6-3 in conference play while the Hawks are 8-16 and 4-5 in the A-10.

Senior John Rieg paced the Red and Blue's offensive attack with two singles and an RBI. His single in the ninth drove in junior Randy Vulakovich for the lead, an unearned run as Vulakovich had reached base on an error.

St. Joe's Mike DeLorenzo homered off DU senior Jim Popp, who had pitched a 7-0 shutout in the series opener on Saturday, for the winning runs. Junior Pete Maropis was 5-11 with three RBI and one run scored over the three-game series. Popp is now 5-3 on the season.

Duquesne returns to action on Tuesday, April 8th, when they host Ohio University (16-11, 4-4 MAC) at 3:00 p.m. at Duquesne Field in Green Tree.
