Dukes Outgunned by Mountaineers, 15-11

April 20, 2004

Box Score

The Duquesne University baseball team fell to visiting West Virginia, 15-11 Tuesday afternoon at Duquesne Field. After trailing 9-0 after 2 1/2 innings, the Dukes managed to cut the lead to 10-8, following a seven-run fourth inning, but would get no closer than a two run deficit the remainder of the game.

Senior Pete Maropis led the Dukes with four hits, including two doubles while fellow senior Dan Schwartzbauer and sophomore Steve Maiolo each had three hits. Maiolo added four RBI to bring him to a team-best 20 on the season, matching redshirt freshman Joe Berletic's 20 after knocking in three versus the Mountaineers. Berletic also leads DU with a .385 batting average.

The Dukes return to the diamond tomorrow, Wednesday, April 21 as they travel to Akron for a 3:00 contest.
