Janusey's Offense Not Enough as PSU Downs Dukes, 12-8

April 24, 2007

Box Score

University Park, Pa. - Duquesne baseball was unable to take advantage of junior Aaron Janusey's (Venetia, PA / Peters Township) offensive attack as Penn State downed the Dukes, 12-8, early Tuesday evening at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Janusey went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI.

Duquesne, down 4-0 after two innings, scored one in the third and three, off Janusey's first roundtripper, in the fourth to knot the score at 4-4. Penn State scored in the bottom of the frame to retake a 5-4 edge.

The Dukes rallied in the sixth with another trio, two from Janusey's second homer of the day and team-leading sixth of the season, for a 7-5 lead. Penn State scored seven in their next three turns at the plate. With the Dukes' trailing 12-7 in the ninth, junior Eric Morrison's (Pittsburgh, PA / Bethel Park) two-out single plated sophomore Mike Carroll (New Martinsville, WV / Magnolia) to cut the final margin to 12-8.

Morrison also had three hits with classmate Nolan Pena (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic / Archbishop Carroll - FL) and sophomore Bill Torre (South Park, PA / South Park) each pounding out a pair for the Dukes who collected 12 hits. Senior Matt Melillo (Brookville, PA / Brookville) picked up his second loss in relief.

Penn State (17-19) had 18 hits and four players with two RBI apiece, led by Matt Cavagnaro (5-for-6) and Joe Blackburn (4-for-4). Ryan Stobart (2-2), who pitched a scoreless seventh, was credited with the victory.

Duquesne (13-22) returns to Pittsburgh for another non-conference game against Kent State (17-23), tomorrow, Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. on Duquesne Field in the Green Tree suburb.
