Box Score

Green Tree, Pa. - Duquesne University's baseball team dropped the Atlantic 10 Conference three-game weekend series' getaway game, 14-6, to Charlotte Sunday afternoon at Duquesne Field in the Pittsburgh suburbs.

Senior Steve Maiolo was 2-of-4 with three RBI. Sophomore Eric Morrison went 2-for-3, including a double, and scored half of Duquesne's six runs.

After starting the game down 5-0 in the second, Duquesne battled back and tightened the score to 8-6 after six innings. Charlotte (31-18-1,15-9) added a single score in the eighth, 9-6. The 49ers then closed the door on the Dukes with five runs in the ninth.

This time, it was Duquesne's fielding that aided an opponent. Four of the Niners' five runs in the ninth were unearned. Five DU errors resulted in a total of eight unearned runs (57.1%)

Junior Jeff Naughton (4-1) picked up his first loss of the season. Spencer Speedley (2-0) got the win.

The Dukes (18-32, 11-13 A-10) are again tied with Richmond (21-30, 11-13 A-10) in the league standings, this time in eighth place. George Washington (20-31, 11-11 A-10), Duquesne's final regular season opponent, won two-of-three this weekend versus the Spiders to move into seventh. Fordhman (23-29, 13-11 A-10) sits alone in sixth place.

Before hosting the Colonials in a three-game series starting Thursday, May 18, 2006, the Red and Blue and Niagara (22-23) will meet at Duquesne Field on Tuesday, May 16, 2006.
