Mark Tracy Drafted By Colorado Rockies

June 11, 2009

Duquesne junior catcher/first baseman Mark Tracy (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) was selected by the Colorado Rockies in Thursday's 49th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Tracy is the ninth Duquesne baseball player to be drafted all-time and is the fifth in the past eight years.

Tracy led the Dukes with 14 home runs and 46 RBI in 2009. The Pepperdine transfer made 52 starts at catcher, first base and designated hitter, batting .250 (51-204) with six doubles, three triples, 34 runs scored, 23 walks and four stolen bases. He is the son of current Colorado Rockies manager and former Pittsburgh Pirates skipper, Jim Tracy.

In other Duquesne related draft news, Duquesne recruit Karl "Gus" Benusa (Riverview HS) was drafted in the eighth round by the San Francisco Giants. It is the first time a Duquesne signee has been drafted.
