Duquesne University baseball coach Mike Wilson recently announced the addition of four players for the 2011 season. Justin Brozick (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), Marco Caponi (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit), Will Kengor (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) and Brian Weightman (Jeannette, Pa./Jeannette) will enroll at Duquesne next fall.
Brozick's 2009 team went 23-3 and was WPIAL champions and state runners-up. A member of the All-Section team, he hit .436 as a junior with 34 hits, 10 extra base hits and 28 RBI. In addition, he was a co-captain and starting quarterback for the Tigers football team.
Caponi, a middle infielder, was his team's Gold Glove award winner as a junior for a team that was state runners-up in 2009 and was ranked as high as 11th in the nation in the USA Today Super 25 Poll. As a junior, he hit .333 for the season with 18 RBI and made just one error in 33 games.
Kengor led his team and was among the top 50 in the WPIAL in batting average, hitting .442 (23-52) as a junior, also leading the Vikings in hits (23), doubles (7) and RBI (12). An infielder, he was listed among "Other Top Players" on ESPN RISE Magazine's All-Area Greater Pittsburgh team.
Weightman helped lead his high school team to its first play-off appearance in nearly 30 years. He batted .468 as a junior and led the team in home runs and extra base hits. An All-Section honoree, he is also a three-year letterman in football and basketball, winning state titles in each sport.
The Dukes open the 2010 season on Saturday, Feb. 19 as they travel to South Carolina for a three-game series.
