Duquesne Falls to Xavier, 73-52

CINCINNATI (AP) - Stanley Burrell scored 19 points and Brian Thornton added 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead Xavier to a 73-52 victory over Duquesne on Wednesday night.
Burrell also added three second-half 3-pointers to help break open a tightly contested game early in the second half.
Tyler Bluemling's 3-point shot keyed an 8-1 run for Duquesne (4-12, 1-2 Atlantic 10) as the Dukes built a nine-point lead midway through the first half. Burrell scored from behind the arc and Keith Jackson beat the 35-second clock with a 3-point goal to cap a 9-0 run by Xavier (7-5, 1-1) that gave the Musketeers a 29-28 with 1:19 left in the half.
Bluemling scored off a drive and Duquesne took the lead back, but Dedrick Finn made a clutch shot that gave Xavier a 31-30 halftime lead.
Bryant McAllister opened the second half with a 3-point shot to put the Dukes on top briefly 33-31. Justin Cage countered with a layup at to tie the game, and McAllister put Duquesne back in the lead 35-33 at the 18:03 mark.
Duquesne led 37-36 with 16:29 remaining, but Xavier took the lead back with a 3-pointer by Cage and stayed in command the rest of the way.
McAllister led scoring for Duquesne with 27 points. Bluemling added 10.
