Mason, Colter Lead @DuqMBB to 78-62 Win Over GW

PITTSBURGH - Micah Mason scored a career-high 24 points and fellow guard Derrick Colter added 18 to lead Duquesne to a 78-62 win over George Washington at Palumbo Center.
The Dukes shot 50.9 percent - including 57.1 in the second half - in posting the highest point total by a Colonials opponent this season.
Kevin Larsen and Kethan Savage led GW with 16 points each.
Darius Lewis added a career-high 12 rebounds for Duquesne.
GW hit just two of its first 20 shots as Duquesne jumped out to a 14-7 lead. The Dukes went on a 10-0 run with a Mason layup giving the Dukes a 26-14 lead with 5:47 left in the half.
Mason, who had 12 in the first 20 minutes, added a driving layup with two seconds left to give the Dukes a 33-21 halftime lead.
Duquesne took a brief 14-point lead early in the second half before GW found its range and cut the lead to 49-42 on the third of three consecutive buckets by Savage with 10:49 left.
DU quelled the run with a dunk and 3-pointer from Gill to make it a 56-42 game with 8:39 to go.
Mason's third 3-pointer made it 61-46 two minutes later and his fourth and final three gave DU a 72-58 lead with just under three minutes left.
The Dukes went 7-of-11 from the arc in the second half and 10-of-21 for the game. Mason and Colter hit four 3-pointers each.
GW, which shot 20.5 percent in the first half, finished at 31.9 percent.
Duquesne is at Massachusetts on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 4:00 p.m. (Atlantic 10 Digital Network).
With the win, Duquesne moved to 7-6 at home (7-5 at Palumbo Center) ... the Dukes are now 3-3 in Atlantic 10 home games ... two of the three losses were one possession games (61-60 to Rhode Island & 100-97 to St. Bonaventure in OT) .... the other loss, 70-64 to VCU at CONSOL Energy Center, was a one-possession game with under two minutes left.
The win snapped a four-game GW series win streak.
The previous high point total by a GW opponent was 72 shared by VCU and Saint Louis.
Micah Mason's 24 points eclipsed his previous career high of 22 set at Saint Louis last season.
DU's starting backcourt of Mason (24 points) and Derrick Colter (18 points) combined for 42 of DU's 78 points ... the twosome was a combined 8-of-13 from 3-point (four 3-pointers apiece).
Darius Lewis finished with a career-high 12 rebounds ... his previous best was 8 at Penn State on Dec. 10 ... fellow center Jordan Robinson also posted a career rebound high with 6 off the bench... Robinson's previous best was 5 in the season opener vs. Bluefield State.
Duquesne finished with 18 assists and eight turnovers.
The Dukes never trailed in posting their second wire-to-wire win of the season ... the other was on Dec. 2 vs. Howard (81-63).
Duquesne, which trailed by as many as 36 in the second half of its 74-59 loss at George Washington on Jan. 24, led by as many as 17 (65-48 with 4:38 left).
