PITTSBURGH (AP) - Tamarius Brown had 18 points and William Byrd 16 to lead Arkansas-Pine Bluff to a 64-56 win over Duquesne Tuesday night.

Byrd added six rebounds and two blocks and Brown had a team-high five assists for the Golden Lions (1-1), who had a 16-4 advantage in fast break points and 36-18 edge in points in the paint.

Playing in his first game for Duquesne after transferring from Western Kentucky, Ryan Lambert had 13 points to lead the Dukes (0-1). Kieron Achara had 10 points and Chauncey Duke nine points and six rebounds for Duquesne, which shot 39 percent from the field and committed 19 turnovers.

The Dukes opened the game with an 8-0 run but never led by that many again as the Golden Lions scored 11 of the next 13 points. Arkansas-Pine Bluff began the second half on a 13-5 run to erase a one-point halftime deficit.

The Golden Lions led by as many as 11 in the second half.

It was the first time since 1990 and only the fourth time overall Duquesne opened the season at home with a loss. The Dukes fell to 75-15 in openers, including 70-4 at home.

Duquesne was playing without senior guard Bryant McAllister, its leading scorer from last season, because he was serving a one-game suspension for an off-court incident this summer.
