Dukes Fall to Robert Morris, 91-69

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA. - Velton Jones scored 17 of his game-high 22 points in the second half to power Robert Morris (7-4) to a 91-69 win over Duquesne (6-5) at Sewall Center.
Coron Williams added 16 for the Colonials, who outscored the Dukes 60-39 over the game's final 20 minutes in extending their series win streak to three.
Robert Morris, which led 31-30 at the half, hit its first eight shots in the second half - including five 3-pointers - to break the game open.
Jones hit two 3-pointers and Williams added two more. during the flurry. RMU led 52-38 before it missed its first shot at the 15:04 mark.
DU head coach Jim Ferry was whistled for a technical foul five seconds later and Jones hit both free throws and a 3-pointer off the inbound play to complete a five-point possession that gave the Colonials a 19-point lead.
RMU maintained at least a 20-point margin for the final 5:28.
"I thought we played well for the first 10 minutes and I thought Robert Morris just absolutely dominated this basketball game for that 30 minute stint," said Duquesne head coach Jim Ferry. "They started the second half with a sense of urgency. To be quite honest with you, I've been doing this a long time and I don't think I've seen a second-half shooting display like they put on. You have to give those guys credit. As much as we broke down, they made those shots."
Robert Morris, which shot 50.7 percent for the game, was 21-of-32 - including 9-of-14 from 3-point - in the second half.
Duquesne, which outrebounded Robert Morris 42-27, turned it over 25 times leading to 31 RMU points.
"They are just a better team than we are right now," said Ferry. "That's a seasoned, veteran, winning program that outplayed us tonight and they deserve all the credit."
Duquesne hosts Western Michigan on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be televised nationally by NBC Sports Network.
This is the first time in the 23-game series that Robert Morris has won three in a row ... the Colonials have now won four of the past five at Sewall Center.
The 22-point margin of victory was Robert Morris' largest in the series ... their previous best was +11 (74-63 at Sewall Center on Dec. 29, 2004) ... RMU's 91 points were its most in series history (its previous high was 85 in an 85-81 win on Dec. 22, 1991 at Sewall Center).
This was the first time in the past four games between the two that a team scored over 70 points.
With his 12 points, Sean Johnson tied Ed Dahler (1,034 points from 1947-50) for the No. 34 spot on DU's all-time leading scorers' list.
This was the third career double-digit rebound game for Andre Marhold ... the 11 boards tied both his career high and the DU single-game high this season.
