Red and Blue Defeat St. Francis (NY), 67-57

The men's basketball team improved its record to 4-7 with a 67-57 win over St. Francis (NY) in the first round of the Florida International New Year's Classic.

The Dukes were led by junior Elijah Palmer with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Palmer, who returned to the starting lineup Friday, also contributed one assist and one steal and blocked two Terrier shots.The JC transfer shot 69.2 percent (9-13) from the field.

Senior Kevin Forney added 15 points and freshman Bryant McAllister put in 14, including 11 in the second half. DU, which again held a half-time lead at 32-29, was led on the boards by junior Ron Dokes who pulled down 11 carooms.

The Dukes return to action Friday as they face 5-6 Florida International at 8:00 pm in the championship game. The host Golden Panthers defeated Radford 81-46 in the other first round game.
