MIAMI (AP) - Ron Dokes scored 18 points to push Duquesne to a 71-68 overtime victory over Florida International on Saturday night in the championship game of the FIU Hampton in New Year's Classic.

Duquesne (5-7) didn't commit a turnover during the overtime and forced Florida International (5-7) to miss its final three field goals.

Junior Matias made two free throws putting the Golden Panthers ahead 66-65. But Duquesne followed with field goals from Dokes and Simplice Njoya, sparking a 6-2 run to end the game.

The Dukes shot 33 percent from beyond the three-point line, compared to Florida International's 7 percent.

Elijah Palmer, who was named the tournament MVP, added 17 points for the Dukes and was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond three-point range. Dokes also made the All-Tournament Team.

Njoya and Kevin Forney also scored double digits for the Dukes, adding 14 and 12, respectively.

St. Fancis (NY) took third place in the New Year's Classic with a 69-63 win over Radford.

The Dukes return to action on Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 31) when they host Maryland-Eastern Shore at 1:30 p.m. at the Palumbo Center. The game can be heard on KQV-AM (1410) and on the internet at www.redzonemedia.com.
