• Duquesne (7-8, 0-1), which dropped its Atlantic 10 opener at Fordham on Wednesday, returns home to host conference preseason favorite Saint Joseph's (8-5, 0-1) on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 7:00 p.m.

• The Dukes, who are 1-6 on the road, are back in the Palumbo Center for the first time since Dec. 19. DU which is 6-1 at home, has won five in a row at home (including a CONSOL Energy Center win over West Virginia on Dec. 11). DU has won two of its past three home games vs. SJU.

• Saint Joseph's, which is coming off a 72-66 home loss to No. 14 (AP) Butler on Wednesday, is 3-2 on the road.

Saint Joseph's Rallies to Defeat Dukes in Overtime, 84-82
Saint Joseph's rallied from 16 points down with under 10 minutes left to defeat Duquesne 84-82 in overtime in the Atlantic 10 opener for both schools at the Palumbo Center.

• Three of DU's top five scorers are freshmen: Derrick Colter (13.5 ppg.), Quevyn Winters (8.5) and Jeremiah Jones (7.2). Colter (Dec. 17 & 24) and Winters (Dec. 31) combined to earn A-10 Rookie of the Week honors for three-straight weeks in December. Colter, who has scored in double digits in his past seven games (17.9 ppg. over that span), leads the Dukes in scoring (13.5 ppg., 0.2 ahead of Sean Johnson) and leads in assists (75/5.0 apg.) ... only four players in school history have led the Dukes in scoring and assists - all were seniors: Aaron Jackson (19.3/5.7 in 2009), Bryant McAllister (19.7/4.8 in 2006), Courtney Wallace (16.6/3.4 in 2001) and Mike James (17.5/3.5 in 1998).

• This is the 49th game in a series that dates back to Feb. 25, 1938 ... Saint Joseph's leads the series 36-12, including a 14-8 advantage in games played at Pittsburgh.

• What was once a lopsided series has tightened considerably over the past five years. The Dukes, who lost 16 of 17 to SJU from 1994 through 2007, have won three of the past six with all three losses coming in overtime.

• Three of the past five meetings between the two have been decided in overtime, with the Hawks winning all three: 99-98 at the Palestra in 2009, 93-90 in the quarterfinal of the A-10 Championship in Atlantic City in 2011 and  84-82 at Pittsburgh last year. The Hawks rallied from a 16-point deficit with under 10 minutes left to pull out last year's win. DU rallied from an 18-point second half deficit in the OT loss at the Palestra.

• Saint Joe's had won 10 in a row in the series prior to DU's 102-88 win at the Palumbo Center on Feb. 6, 2008. Shawn James had the first triple-double in school history (17-11-10) as DU posted the highest point total by either team in the history of the series.

• Duquesne has scored 521 points in the past six meetings (86.8 ppg.) including a 99-98 overtime loss at the Palestra in 2009 and a 93-90 loss at the 2011 A-10 Championship ... the 2009 game was tied at 88 at the end of regulation ... prior to 2008, the most points a Duquesne team had scored against Saint Joseph's was 98 in a 98-95 win on Jan. 5, 1991 ... it was just one of two times in the history of the series that DU had scored 90 or more vs. the Hawks prior to 2008.

SJU (8-5, 0-1) was picked to win the Atlantic 10 in the preseason poll of Atlantic 10 coaches ... the Hawks are coming off a 72-66 Atlantic 10 opening home loss to No. 14 (AP) Butler on Wednesday ... the Hawks, who led 40-35 at the half, shot .259 and were outscored 37-26 in the second 20 minutes ... Butler outscored SJU 34-16 in the paint ... Saint Joseph's owns one of the A-10's marquee wins, a 79-70 overtime victory over No. 20 (AP) Notre Dame on Nov. 16 ... leading scorer 5-11 senior G Carl Jones (14.8 ppg.) went over the 1,500-point mark in a win over Iona on Dec. 28 ... he scored a season-high 32 agaisnt the Gaels ... junior F C.J. Aiken ranks among the nation's top 10 with 3.1 blocks/g. ... Aiken had nine blocks in SJU's 84-82 OT win over Duquesne last season ... junior G Langston Galloway (14.7 ppg.) has a team-high 30 3-pointers ... he is shooting .841 from the foul line (37-of-44) ... the Hawks, in their 18th season under Phil Martelli, are 3-2 on the road with wins over Coppin State (67-55), Drexel (63-49) and Morgan State (70-60) ... the losses came at No. 11 (AP) Creighton (80-51) and at cross-town rival Villanova (65-61).

Notes from Duquesne's 82-75 Atlantic 10-opening loss at Fordham on Wednesday ... the loss snapped a four-game DU series win streak and extended a Duquesne's road losing streak to four ... there were seven ties and six lead changes before Fordham took the lead for good on a Chris Gaston layup with 3:55 left in the first half ... Fordham's largest lead was 11 (57-46) with 15:58 left ... the Rams shot .571 in jumping out to a 47-41 halftime lead ... Fordham finished at .531 for the game ... the Rams outrebounded the Dukes 49-34 and outscored DU 44-28 in the paint ... Derrick Colter led the Dukes with 17 points and a career-high 9 assists in 33 turnover-free minutes ... Kadeem Pantophlet added 13 points and 6 boards in a career-high 36 minutes ... Sean Johnson scored all of his 12 points in the second half ... Chris Gaston (18-10) and Branden Frazier (16-13a) both recorded double-doubles for Fordham ... Duquesne posted a season-high 10 steals and a season-low 5 turnovers ... Fordham rejected 13 DU shots (four each by Gaston and Ryan Rhoomes) ... 6-9 sophomore forward Mamadou Datt, who sat out the first semester to concentrate on academics, made his 2012-13 debut ... the Senegal native had 4 points and 4 rebounds in 10 minutes.

• Duquesne given up an average of 85.7 ppg. during its current three-game losing streak ... the Dukes have been outrebounded 132-88 (44.0-to-29.3, -14.7) over that span ... DU's rebounding margin was +5.3 entering the Dec. 22 game at Louisiana-Lafayette ... it has dropped to +1.3.

• Duquesne's rebound margin is +8.0 at home and -4.5 on the road (including neutral-site games).

• DU is holding opponents to .397 shooting at home (.474 in road and neutral-site games).

• Freshman Derrick Colter has scored in double digits in seven consecutive games ... he is averaging 17.9 points (20-of-50, .400 from 3-point) and 5.9 assists per game over that span (125 points, 41 assists with 20 turnovers) ... he has hit at least three 3-pointers in six of his past seven games.

• Sophomore Kadeem Pantophlet has pulled down at least six rebounds in nine of his past 11 games ... his season average stands at 5.5 rpg. ... he averaged 1.8 rpg. as a freshman ... Pantophlet's 13 points at Fordham were his most since 14 vs. Maine on Dec. 1 (a span of eight games).
