QUICK NOTES
• Duquesne (8-16, 1-9) and Rhode Island (7-16, 2-8), who both ended losing streaks this week, meet on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Palumbo Center at 7:00 p.m. URI ended a six-game skid with a 75-72 home win over Dayton on Wednesday, while Duquesne snapped an 11-game streak with an 84-83 victory at Temple on Thursday.

• Another streak will end Saturday as Duquesne has dropped five in a row at home and Rhode Island has lost three straight on the road. DU, which opened the year 6-1, is 6-6 at home. URI is 2-7 on the road with an impressive OT win at Saint Louis.

• First-year head coach Jim Ferry started three freshmen for the second consecutive time this season in the win at Temple. Forward Quevyn Winters scored a team-high 22 points (5-of-5 from 3-point), point guard Derrick Colter had 17 points - including two game-winning free throws with 2.9 left - along with six assists and four steals. Swingman Jeremiah Jones added nine points and six rebounds. All three played over 31 minutes in leading DU to its first win at Temple since 1995.

• The is the third-straight year Jim Ferry's and first-year Rhode Island coach Dan Hurley's teams will face each other. The two met four times in the past two seasons in the Northeast Conference when Ferry at LIU Brooklyn and Hurley at Wagner. Ferry's Blackbirds took all four meetings.

Dukes Back on Track with 78-71 Victory at Rhode Island
T.J. McConnell had 16 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists to lead five Duquesne players in double figures in a 78-71 Atlantic 10 win at Rhode Island.

• Three of DU's top five scorers are freshmen: Derrick Colter (12.9 ppg.), Quevyn Winters (9.3) and Jeremiah Jones (8.0). Colter (Dec. 17 & 24) and Winters (Dec. 31) combined to earn A-10 Rookie of the Week honors for three-straight weeks in December. Colter leads the team in scoring (0.6 ahead of Sean Johnson) and assists (121/5.04 apg.). Only four players in school history have led the Dukes in scoring and assists - all were seniors: Aaron Jackson (19.3/5.7 in 2009), Bryant McAllister (19.7/4.8 in 2006), Courtney Wallace (16.6/3.4 in 2001) and Mike James (17.5/3.5 in 1998).

• Colter (31.5), Jeremiah Jones (25.3) and Winters (21.0) are all averaging over 20 minutes per game. The threesome - which ranks first, fourth and third on the team in scoring - is accounting for 44.2 percent of DU's points and over half of the team's 3-pointers (106-of-197).

• Colter, the eighth freshman in school history to total 100 assists in a season (he has 121), is averaging a team high 5.04 apg. He is on pace to become just the fourth freshman in school history to average five assists in a season. The others are: Norm Nixon (6.00 in 1974), Kenya Hunter (5.29 in 1993) and Clayton Adams (5.09 in 1988).

• Eight of DU's 16 losses have come to teams that began the week ranked in the NCAA RPI Top 90 ... DU's top RPI wins have been over Temple (40), West Virginia (90) and Western Michigan (97).

Next up: Duquesne concludes its stretch of three games in six days at nationally ranked Butler on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The game will air live on ROOT Sports Pittsburgh TV.

SERIES QUICK NOTES
• This is the 53rd meeting in a series that dates to Jan. 13, 1966 ... Rhode Island, winner of 15 of the past 20, leads the all-time series 28-24 ... in games at Pittsburgh, Duquesne leads 12-11 ... the two have split the past four meetings.

• URI has won five in a row at Palumbo Center, with DU's last home series win coming on Jan. 10, 2001 (83-69) under Darelle Porter ... Marquis Jones' layup with 9.3 seconds left rallied the Rams from a five-point deficit with 3:15 left to a 77-76 win over the Dukes in the last meeting at Palumbo Center (2011).

• The past six meetings between the two (four URI wins) have been determined by eight or fewer points ... the average score of the past six: Rhode Island 75.0, Duquesne 74.7 (450 points for URI & 448 for DU).

Hurley and current DU head coach Jim Ferry met four times when Hurley was at Wagner (2010-11 & 2011-12) and Ferry was at LIU (2002-03 through 2011-12) ... Ferry's Blackbirds won all four meetings ... Rhody is 2-7 on the road with wins at Auburn (78-72 in 2OT) and at Saint Louis (82-80 OT) ... the Rams are led by first year JC transfer 6-2 Xavier Munford (17.5 ppg.) ... Munford, who is averaging 35.5 minutes per game, hit eight 3-pointers in scoring 33 points in the win at Auburn ... Notes from Thursday's 84-83 win at Temple ... Duquesne started three freshmen for the second consecutive game (Derrick Colter, Jeremiah Jones & Quevyn Winters) in posting its first win at Temple since 1995 ... Winters led DU with a career high 22 points (8-of-9, including 5-of-5 from 3-point) ... Colter had 17 points, 6 assists and 4 steals in addition to a pair of game-winning free throws with 2.9 seconds left ... Jones had nine points and six boards ... all three freshmen played 31 minutes or more ... Andre Marhold posted his second career double-double with 15 points and a career-high 15 rebounds ... he also blocked three big late-game shots ... the win ended losing streaks of 11 (overall), nine (A-10) and seven (road) games ... DU trailed by eight with 14:18 left, only to rally and go up eight with 1:25 to go (that's a 16-point turnaround in a span of 12:53).

Duquesne is 7-3 when scoring 70 or more, 5-0 when scoring 80 or more, 6-1 when leading at the half, 6-0 when leading with 5:00 left and 5-1 in games decided by five or fewer points ... in an oddity of sorts, the Dukes are 2-5 when holding opponents under 70 points and 3-3 when holding opponents under 40 percent from the floor.

TRENDING ...
• Freshman Quevyn Winters is averaging 20.5 ppg. as a starter (past two g.) ... he tied his career high with 19 vs. Xavier and topped that with 22 on 8-of-9 shooting (5-of-5 from 3-point) in the win at Temple.

• Senior center Andre Marhold posted his second career double-double with 15 points and a career-high 15 rebounds at Temple ... he is averaging 12.0 ppg and 12.5 rpg and shooting .786 (11-of-14) in his past two games.

• Freshman Jeremiah Jones is averaging 12.2 ppg. (10-of-24 from 3-point) in his past five games ... he has scored in double digits in four of the five games.

• The Dukes, who are 7-3 when scoring 70 or more, topped the 70-point mark for the first time in nine games at Temple ... DU's 84 points were the third-most by an Owls opponent this year (Duke scored 90 in a win and Charlotte 88 in a loss).
