Duquesne (15-12, 6-8), heads to Olean, N.Y. for its 120th meeting with St. Bonaventure (20-6, 10-4) on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 7:00 p.m. (Facebook). The Dukes, who are 2-5 on the road, are looking to snap a four-game skid against a Bonnies team that has won eight in a row, including a 77-74 win over #16 (AP) Rhode Island on Friday. St. Bonaventure, which is 11-1 at home, won the first meeting between the two on Feb. 3, when Jaylen Adams scored the last of his Palumbo Center opponent record 40 points on a game-deciding 3-pointerwith 3.8 seconds left to give SBU an 84-81 win.
DU held a 15-point second half lead at URI, and also led by 12 in the second half at VCU.
Duquesne ranks 27th nationally in 3-point field goal percentage defense (.315). The .315 mark is the second best in school history. DU ranked 232nd in 3-point defense last season. Opponents are 43-of-95 (.453) from the arc in DU's past five games.
DU, who has outrebounded 17 of 27 opponents (tied twice), has been outrebounded in six of its past 11 games.
Duquesne is 11-2 when holding opponents under 70 points and 15-1 when leading with 5:00 left.
The Dukes have given up 80 or more points in each of their past four games. Opponents are averaging 83.5 ppg. and shooting .531 (113-of-213) over that span.
Eric Williams Jr., a four-time A-10 Rookie of the Week, has five double-doubles in 14 league games. His 12 double-digit rebound games are tied for most in the A-10 and 10 double-doubles rank second in the conference and tied for eighth nationally among Division I freshmen.
Tydus Verhoeven, the A-10's leading shot blocker (62, 2.30/g.), has broken the DU freshman record for blocks in a season set by Derrick Alston in 1991 (54). Verhoeven's 62 blocks already rank 9th on DU's career list.
Tarin Smith, who entered this season with 21 3-pointers in 63 career games, has 34 3-pointers in 27 games this year.
Graduate student guard Rene Castro-Caneddy, who entered the season with a 5.0 ppg. scoring average, is scoring at a 13.7 ppg. clip. He has scored in double digits 10 times, and totaled 20 or more six times in 14 A-10 games. His 14.8 ppg. scoring average in conference play is tied with Eric Williams Jr. for team high.
DU's three overtime games in 2017-18 are its most since a school record six in 2009-10.
Sophomore Mike Lewis II enters Wednesday's game tied for eighth on DU's career 3-pointers list with 136, he needs five to pass Courtney Wallace and move into the No. 7 spot.
This is the 120th meeting in a series that dates to Feb. 13, 1920 ... St. Bonaventure, which has won the past four, leads the series 60-59 ...
