Dukes Add Men's Basketball Signee
April 26, 2013
PITTSBURGH - Duquesne University head men's basketball coach Jim Ferry announced that 6-11, 240-pound Darius Lewis (Lexington, Ky./IMG Academy) has signed a National Letter of Intent, making him the fifth member of the 2013-14 recruiting class.
Lewis, a native of Lexington, Ky., spent his past two seasons at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. He averaged 13.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game in 2012-13. Lewis has dropped nearly 60 pounds since leaving Tates Creek High School for IMG prior to the 2011-12 season.
"I'm really excited to have Darius as part of the Duquesne program," said Ferry. "He is another great kid - and outstanding student - who comes from a great family. Darius is a true big man who I see having a bright future in our program. He has tremendous potential and a great upside. He has worked very hard to get to where he is now, and I expect him to continue to work to become the kind of true center who can have a presence in the Atlantic 10."
Lewis joins freshman guard Desmond Ridenour (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/M.A.C.K. Prep), freshman forward Jordan Robinson (Toronto, Ontario/Quality Education Academy), freshman forward Isaiah Watkins (Toronto, Ontario/St. Benedict's Prep) and junior college transfer guard Tra'Vaughn White (Kansas City, Kan./Independence CC) to form the 2013-14 recruiting class.
Transfer shooting guard Micah Mason (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands/Drake), will also be part of the men's basketball program this fall. Mason, who played at Drake last season, will sit out the 2013-14 season per NCAA transfer rules. He will be able to practice with the team.
The newcomers join 6-8, 220-pound Ovie Soko (London, England/Bethel HS/UAB), who sat out last season following his transfer from UAB, to give the Dukes seven new roster members for 2013-14.
