Men's Basketball Announces Another Commitment

Coach Ron Everhart adds to his first recruiting class

Duquesne University head men's basketball coach Ron Everhart has announced that guard Lucas Newton (Weston, Fla./Westminster Academy) has committed to enroll this fall as a member of the men's basketball team. Newton is the fifth player to commit to the Dukes this spring.

"I'm really excited to have Lucas as part of our program," said Everhart. "He'll give us much-needed help at the point guard position. He has tremendous speed and is an outstanding on-the-ball defender. Plus he is very good at distributing the basketball. He was one of the highest-regarded private school players in the state of Florida."

Newton, who shared point guard duties with Florida State signee Josue Soto as a member of the AAU Miami Tropics the past two summers, averaged 21.0 points and 8.0 assists per game for a 15-12 Westminster Academy team that advanced to the district 14-3A semifinal this past season.

A second team 3A-2A-1A All-County pick by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Newton is ranked as one of the top 75 players in the state by FloridaHoops.com.
