Damian Saunders Named to Miami Heat Summer League Roster

PITTSBURGH - Former Duquesne forward Damian Saunders (2008-11) will represent the World Champion Miami Heat at the NBA Summer League later this month in Las Vegas.
The 6-7 forward is one of 16 players on the Heat summer league roster.
Saunders played for FS Debrecen in Hungary before being invited to Houston Rockets NBA preseason camp in December. He went on to play for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets affiliate in the NBA Development League.
The Waterbury, Conn. native played in 29 games with 21 starts for the Vipers. He averaged 10.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.
Saunders, a two-time Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, set Duquesne career records for games (127), starts (116), steals (277), blocks (300) and dunks (166). He posted the third-most rebounds (1,019) and double-doubles (36) in school history and his .506 career field goal percentage ranked 10th all-time. His 1,511 points ranked 11th on the DU career list.
He is the only player in NCAA history to amass over 250 career assists, steals and blocked shots.
The Heat begins summer league play on Sunday, July 15 vs. the Toronto Raptors. The Heat's five-game schedule continues with match-ups against the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Portland Trail Blazers and San Antonio Spurs. Summer league play will conclude on Saturday, July 21. All games will appear on NBA TV and will be streamed live on NBA.com.
