2012-13 Non-Conference Schedule Get Acrobat Reader

PITTSBURGH - A total of seven home games - including three in three days as part of the 2012 Legends Classic - highlight the 14-game non-conference portion of Duquesne University's 2012-13 men's basketball schedule announced today.

The Dukes, in their first season under head coach Jim Ferry, will open at Albany on Nov. 9. DU will then take part in the Legends Classic with an opening round game at one of four potential sites (Georgetown, Georgia, Indiana or UCLA) between Nov. 11-15. Duquesne will host three teams in a Legends Classic subregional Nov. 19-21. The round robin format will feature doubleheaders on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday leading up to Thanksgiving.

A post-holiday game at Appalachian State on Nov. 28 completes the November portion of the schedule.

DU opens December at home against Maine on Dec. 1 before its annual clash with Pitt in the 81st edition of the City Game at CONSOL Energy Center on Dec. 5.

Following the Pitt game, the Dukes will host New Orleans on Dec. 8 and West Virginia at CONSOL Energy Center on Dec. 11.

Duquesne will make the short trip to Moon Township to play Robert Morris on Dec. 15 before returning home to face Western Michigan on Dec. 19.

The Dukes will leave the Pittsburgh area for the first time in December for a game at Louisiana-Lafayette on Dec. 22. DU concludes the non-conference portion of the schedule at Penn State on Dec. 29.

Exhibition games and home game times will be announced in the upcoming weeks. The Atlantic 10 schedule will be released in late August/early September.

Albany • America East Conference ... Appalachian State • Southern Conference ... Appalachian State leads the series 1-0 ... first game of a home-and-home series ... won the only meeting between the schools, 71-68 over Danny Nee's Dukes in the consolation game of the Duquesne Holiday Tournament on Dec. 31, 2005 at the Palumbo Center ... returns its backcourt of senior Jamaal Trice (9.1 ppg., 43 3-pointers), sophomore Mike Neal (8.3 ppg., 92 assists, 38 steals) and sophomore Tab Hamilton (8.0 ppg., 37 3-pointers, 31 steals) ... was 9-5 at 8,325-seat Holmes Center last season ... has won nearly 70 percent of its home games at the elevation 3,333 feet facility ... welcomes 6-6 sophomore Xavier transfer Jay Canty who sat out last season ... Maine is in its ninth season under head coach Ted Woodward ... Woodward has guided the Black Bears to road wins over Atlantic 10 schools in each of the past three seasons: 2009-10 at Fordham (76-73), 2010-11 at UMass (68-56) and 2011-12 at Rhode Island (76-74 in OT) ... Penn State • Big Ten Conference ... PSU leads the series 24-19 ... first game of a new four-game home-and-home series ... West Virginia leads the series 50-36 ... the Mountaineers, in their first Big 12 season, are Duquesne's all-time most frequent non-conference opponent ... this will be game No. 87 ... last year marked the first time since 1973-74 (38 consecutive seasons) that Duquesne did not face West Virginia ... this will be the second consecutive meeting at CONSOL Energy Center ...
