2018 Duquesne Men's Basketball Nonconference Schedule Get Acrobat Reader

PITTSBURGH – The annual City Game vs. Pitt, as well as an appearance in the Las Vegas Classic, highlight the 13-game Duquesne men’s basketball nonconference schedule released today.

The Dukes, who are in their first season under head coach Keith Dambrot, will play at the Palumbo Center 10 times prior to the start of conference play. DU will play nine additional Atlantic 10 home games, which will break the school record of 18 total home games set last year.

Duquesne will open the Dambrot Era at the Palumbo Center on Saturday, Nov. 11 vs. St. Francis Brooklyn. The Dukes will host VMI (Nov. 14), Robert Morris (Nov. 19) and Cornell (Nov. 27) to close out the month of November, before facing Pitt in a neutral-site game at PPG Paints Arena on Dec. 1.

DU, which snapped a 15-game series losing streak to the Panthers with a 64-55 win last season, will be looking to post back-to-back wins over its cross-town rival for the first time since 1980.

The Dukes will then play three home games in six days vs. Maryland Eastern Shore (Dec. 4), Stetson (Dec. 6) and Delaware State (Dec. 9) before hosting Mississippi Valley State on Dec. 13.    
DU will play four games as part of the Las Vegas Classic beginning with home games against North Carolina A&T and Lamar on Dec. 17 & 19.

Duquesne will leave Pittsburgh’s city limits for the first time when it heads to Las Vegas for neutral-site games vs. San Francisco (Dec. 22) and Southern Illinois (Dec. 23) to conclude the Las Vegas Classic as well as the nonconference slate.

The complete 2017-18 Atlantic 10 schedule will be released at a later date.

• The Dukes will play a school-record 19 home games (10 nonconference and nine Atlantic 10). The previous record of 18 was set last year. DU’s other three nonconference games will be played at neutral sites (vs. Pitt at PPG Paints Arena and vs. San Francisco and Southern Illinois at Las Vegas’ Orleans Arena).

• This will be Duquesne’s second-ever trip to Las Vegas. The last came on Dec. 19 & 20, 1987 in the UNLV Rebel Round-Up.

• Two of DU’s four Las Vegas Classic foes will be first-time opponents in Lamar & Southern Illinois. It will be Duquesne’s first game against San Francisco since 1980. Lamar (CIT) and San Francisco (CBI) are both coming off postseason appearances.

• This will be Duquesne’s first game vs. VMI since the two met in the 1977 NCAA East Regional in Raleigh, N.C.


St. Francis Brooklyn (Nov. 11) • Northeast Conference ... located in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. ... DU leads the series 5-1, including a 4-0 mark in games played in Pittsburgh ... will be the first meeting between the Dukes and Terriers since a 67-57 Duquesne win in the opening round of the FIU New Years Classic on Dec. 27, 2002 in Miami, Fla. ... the Terriers return NEC All-Rookie Team selection Rasheem Dunn ... Dunn, a 6-2 guard from Brooklyn, averaged 13.0 ppg. in earning Rookie of the Week honors three times as a freshman ... St. Francis is led by seventh-year coach Glenn Braica ... Braica led the Terriers to 23 wins and an NIT berth in 2015-16.

VMI (Nov. 14) • Southern Conference ... located in Lexington, Va. ... will be the second meeting between the Dukes and Keydets and first since VMI’s 73-66 win over Duquesne in the first round of the NCAA East Regional at Raleigh, N.C. on Mar. 12, 1977 ... return a pair of starters in 6-6 senior forward Armani Branch (7.8 ppg.) and 6-2 junior guard Adrian Rich (6.5 ppg., 34 steals) ... Dan Earl, a former player at Penn State, is in his third season as head coach of the Keydets ... Earl came to VMI after serving as an assistant at both PSU and Navy.

Robert Morris (Nov. 19) • Northeast Conference ... located in Moon Township, Pa. ... DU leads the series 16-11, including an 8-3 mark at Palumbo Center ... this is the 15th consecutive year the two have met ... RMU, under eighth-year head coach Andrew Toole, won five in a row over DU, before the Dukes ended the streak with a 72-65 win at Palumbo Center in 2016 ... Robert Morris defeated Duquesne, 64-60, at PPG Paints Arena last season ... RMU has made seven postseason appearances in the past 10 years ... finished 14-19 overall and 9-9 (T5th) in the NEC in 2017.

Cornell (Nov. 27) • Ivy League ... located in Ithaca, N.Y. ... third meeting in the series which Duquesne leads 2-0 ... DU took the first game, 77-59, on Dec. 29, 1952 in the first round of the Steel Bowl at Fitzgerald Field House ... the Dukes also won the most-recent meeting by a 70-69 count at Palumbo Center on Dec. 31, 2003 ...
