Dukes Announce Men's Basketball Exhibition Games

PITTSBURGH - One will travel a little over 3 miles, the other 4,583. Such is the distance Duquesne's two men's basketball exhibition opponents will cover to open the Jim Ferry Era.
Ferry, who was named DU's head coach in April, and the 2012-13 Dukes will play Division III Carnegie Mellon, located just down Forbes Avenue from the DU campus, in the exhibition opener on Thursday, Nov. 1 at the Palumbo Center at 7:30. The DU/CMU game will be preceded by a Duquesne women's exhibition against California, Pa. at 5:30 p.m.
Division II Hawaii Hilo, which competes in the Pacific West Conference, will make the cross-country journey to face the Dukes on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 7:00 p.m. The Duquesne game will be the second of two in Pittsburgh for the Vulcans who will play at Pitt on Nov. 2.
Duquesne has a long history with CMU, dating back to the first meeting on Jan. 18, 1919. The Dukes and Tartans, who played the first game at Pittsburgh's Civic Arena on Dec. 6, 1961, last met on Feb. 15, 1964 in DU's last home game at Fitzgerald Field House. Duquesne leads the overall series 38-8.
The Tartans finished 9-16 (4-10 in the University Athletic Association) last season. Hawaii Hilo was 9-17, including a 3-15 mark in the PacWest.
The announcement of the two exhibition games, completes the non-conference portion of the 2012-13 schedule.
The Atlantic 10 Conference schedule is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
