Former Duquesne forward/center Kieron Achara (Stirling, Scotland) will rejoin the men's British Basketball team in time for their first home game against the Czech Republic at The O2 arena on September 6.

Having signed for Pallacanestro Cantu (not UPIM Bologna, as previously reported), the Italian club initially withdrew Achara from the British training camp in Belgium, but FIBA Europe rules stipulate that they have no right to do so and with their help British Basketball have been able to regain the 25-year-old's services.

Performance manager of British Basketball, Ron Wuotila, said: "We have quality throughout our programme, from our sports science and medical team through to our coaching staff and clubs need to acknowledge this, we need to start being treated with respect throughout Europe.

"FIBA Europe regulations are crystal clear about players being released for international duty and going forward we will expect all clubs to follow those to a tee."

Achara's return will be welcomed after GB slipped to a narrow defeat to Israel in Tel Aviv last night. Having led 85-83 with only 3.4 seconds to play, Israel forced overtime and consequently won 102-92.

Britain are looking to bounce back immediately with victory over the Czech Republic on Saturday, before heading to the NIA in Birmingham and the Echo Arena in Liverpool.
