Bill Barton Promoted to Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach

Oct. 27, 2008

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne University head men's basketball coach Ron Everhart announced today that second-year assistant Bill Barton has been elevated to associate head coach.

"I'm very pleased to name Bill associate head coach," said Everhart. "In just a short period of time, he has established himself as one of the top recruiters in the East, and he's done it through hard work. In addition to recruiting, Bill has been invaluable behind the scenes with his combination of knowledge and experience. The Duquesne basketball program is fortunate to have a coach with Bill's loyalty, experience and dedication on its staff."

Barton, who came to Duquesne following an extremely successful stint as head coach at Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Mass., was responsible for the recruitment 2007-08 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team member Damian Saunders. The Boston native was also instrumental in Duquesne landing a 2008-09 eight-man recruiting class ranked No. 26 in the country by Hoop Scoop.

"It is an honor and a privilege to work for Ron Everhart and Duquesne University," said Barton. "I am happy to be a part of the rebuilding of the basketball program and I hope to be here as Ron leads it to unprecedented heights over the next several years."

Last year, Duquesne jumped out to its best start in 27 years on the way to posting the school's first winning season since 1993-94 with a 17-13 record. The `08 Dukes' final RPI improved to 130.

Duquesne opens the 2008-09 season on Nov. 14 at home against High Point.
