Saunders Earns Second Consecutive A-10 Player of the Week

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne junior Damian Saunders (Waterbury, Conn./Notre Dame (Mass.) Prep) has been named Atlantic 10 co-Player of the Week for the second-straight week following his performance in Duquesne's 52-50 win at Iowa on Nov. 17.
The 6-7 forward posted his second double-double in as many games with 16 points, 16 rebounds, three blocks and a career high-tying six steals as the Dukes posted the school's first-ever win in a Big Ten arena.
Saunders, who had 17 points and 19 rebounds in Duquesne's season-opening win over Nicholls State, is averaging 16.5 points, 17.5 rebounds, 5.0 steals, 3.5 assists and 2.0 blocks per game on the young season. Saunders, who also hit both of his 3-point attempts at Iowa tied his career steals high set last year against High Point.
Saunders shares this week's award with Xavier sophomore guard Jordan Crawford.
This is the third career A-10 Player of the Week honor for Saunders who earned league mention once in 2008-09.
Duquesne (2-0) returns to action on Monday, Nov. 23 vs. Binghamton (1-2) in the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic at Cullowhee, N.C. The Binghamton game is the first of three in three days for the Dukes who will face Arkansas-Monticello on Tuesday and host Western Carolina on Wednesday before returning home for Thanksgiving.
