• The Dukes are coming off a 73-72 win at Appalachian State. DU saw a 19-point first half lead turn into a three-point second half deficit before freshman Quevyn Winters gave the Dukes the lead for good on a 3-pointer with 31 seconds left. Jerry Jones came off the bench to score a career-high 22 (8-10 from field) for DU.
• Freshmen Derrick Colter (10.8 ppg.), Quevyn Winters (10.5) and Jeremiah Jones (6.0) have accounted for 40 percent of DU’s scoring.
• Duquesne is in its first season under head coach Jim Ferry who was hired on April 10. Ferry, who came to DU after leading LIU Brooklyn to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, is the 16th coach in school history. This is the 97th season for Duquesne basketball.
• The Dukes return two starters - guard Sean Johnson (11.5, 5.2) and forward Andre Marhold (5.3, 5.7) - from last year’s 16-15 team. Ten players have seen action in each of the Dukes’ first six games (an 11th player has played in four of the six contests).
• The Dukes, who ranked 337th of 338th schools in rebounding margin last season (-7.5 rpg.), are outrebounding opponents by +5.8 margin. That’s an improvement of 13.3 rebounds per game from last season.
• Duquesne, which is 2-1 at home, will not leave the City of Pittsburgh again until Dec. 20 (for its Dec. 22 game at Louisiana-Lafayette). DU plays Pitt at CONSOL Energy Center on Dec. 5, hosts New Orleans at Palumbo Center on Dec. 8, hosts West Virginia at CONSOL on Dec. 11, plays at cross-town Robert Morris on Dec. 15 and hosts Western Michigan at Palumbo on Dec. 19.
• Duquesne was picked to finish 16th in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll. Duquesne, George Washington and St. Bonaventure are the only teams who did not place a player on any of the Atlantic 10 preseason teams (First, Second, Third, Defensive or Rookie).
• DU’s non-conference schedule was ranked as tied for fifth-toughest in the Atlantic 10 by ESPN’s Andy Katz. Butler and Temple were ranked a 9 (on a 10-point scale), Xavier and Richmond an 8 and Duquesne and VCU a 7.

America East Conference ... first meeting between the Dukes and Black Bears ... returns three starters from a 12-17 team including America East Rookie of the Year Justin Edwards ... the Whitby, Ontario native led conference freshmen in scoring (13.9 ppg.), assists (3.3 apg.) and steals (1.4 spg.) and was second with a 5.6 rebounds per game average ... Maine is in its ninth season under head coach Ted Woodward ... Woodward has guided the Black Bears to road wins over Atlantic 10 schools in each of the past three seasons: 2009-10 at Fordham (76-73), 2010-11 at UMass (68-56) and 2011-12 at Rhode Island (76-74 in OT) ... The Black Bears, who opened with four consecutive losses, are coming off back-to-back wins over Siena (72-66) and Northeastern (76-73) ... the Northeastern victory was Maine’s first on the road where they are now 1-3 ... Maine, which has struggled from the 3-point arc in the early season (21-of-96, .219), showed signs of snapping out of its slump by going 6-of-16 from the arc at Northeastern (the Black Bears shot 59.2% overall) ... Justin Edwards, the 2012 America East Rookie of the Year, leads the team with a 16.2 ppg. scoring average ... the 6-3 guard from Whitby, Ontario, is coming off a 30-point performance (11-of-12 from the field) at Northeastern ... he has led the team in scoring in each of the past four games ... 6-7 junior forward Alasdair Fraser, who had 20 points at Northeastern, leads Maine with a 9.0 rebounds per game average ...
