QUICK NOTES
• The Dukes are coming off a 73-72 win at Appalachian State. DU saw a 19-point first half lead turn into a three-point second half deficit before freshman Quevyn Winters gave the Dukes the lead for good on a 3-pointer with 31 seconds left. Jerry Jones came off the bench to score a career-high 22 (8-10 from field) for DU.

• Freshmen Derrick Colter (10.8 ppg.), Quevyn Winters (10.5) and Jeremiah Jones (6.0) have accounted for 40 percent of DU’s scoring.

• Duquesne is in its first season under head coach Jim Ferry who was hired on April 10. Ferry, who came to DU after leading LIU Brooklyn to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, is the 16th coach in school history. This is the 97th season for Duquesne basketball.

• The Dukes return two starters - guard Sean Johnson (11.5, 5.2) and forward Andre Marhold (5.3, 5.7) - from last year’s 16-15 team. Ten players have seen action in each of the Dukes’ first six games (an 11th player has played in four of the six contests).

• The Dukes, who ranked 337th of 338th schools in rebounding margin last season (-7.5 rpg.), are outrebounding opponents by +5.8 margin. That’s an improvement of 13.3 rebounds per game from last season.

• Duquesne, which is 2-1 at home, will not leave the City of Pittsburgh again until Dec. 20 (for its Dec. 22 game at Louisiana-Lafayette). DU plays Pitt at CONSOL Energy Center on Dec. 5, hosts New Orleans at Palumbo Center on Dec. 8, hosts West Virginia at CONSOL on Dec. 11, plays at cross-town Robert Morris on Dec. 15 and hosts Western Michigan at Palumbo on Dec. 19.

• Duquesne was picked to finish 16th in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll. Duquesne, George Washington and St. Bonaventure are the only teams who did not place a player on any of the Atlantic 10 preseason teams (First, Second, Third, Defensive or Rookie).

• DU’s non-conference schedule was ranked as tied for fifth-toughest in the Atlantic 10 by ESPN’s Andy Katz. Butler and Temple were ranked a 9 (on a 10-point scale), Xavier and Richmond an 8 and Duquesne and VCU a 7.
