Theis Sidelined with Bruised Kidney

Dec. 1, 2008

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne University sophomore forward David Theis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy/Mercersburg (Pa.) Prep) will miss Wednesday night's game at nationally ranked Pittsburgh with a bruised kidney.

The 6-7, 230-pounder was diagnosed over the weekend after being hospitalized Saturday and Sunday night at UPMC Mercy Hospital. His status will be re-evaluated at the end of the week.

"The timing of the injury is unfortunate because David has really been coming along as of late," said Duquesne head coach Ron Everhart. "It a tough break for the team, but our main concern is David's health and recovery."

Theis, who scored a career-high seven points in a career-best 27 minutes at No. 7 (AP) Duke on Friday, felt discomfort on the Dukes' return trip on Friday night. He was admitted to the hospital on Saturday. It is believed the kidney was bruised in a collision during Duquesne's 79-69 win at South Carolina Upstate on Nov. 25.

Theis, who has seen action all five Duquesne games, is averaging 3.2 points and 1.4 rebounds in an average of 14.2 minutes per game. He is shooting .538 from the field.

Duquesne (4-1), plays its third of four consecutive road games at Pittsburgh (7-0) on Wednesday. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
