QUICK NOTES

• Duquesne (5-4), which is 4-1 at home this season, moves across the street to host West Virginia (4-3) at CONSOL Energy Center on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 7:05 p.m. This is the first of three home games for the Dukes at CONSOL. DU dropped a neutral game to Pitt (45-66) at CONSOL on Dec. 5.

• Last season marked the first time in 38 years that the Dukes and Mountaineers did not meet. This is the 87th matchup between the two in a series that dates back to Jan. 30, 1915. DU has faced only one other school - Atlantic 10 member St. Bonaventure - more times than WVU.

• DU has played before an average crowd of 8,604 in four all-time home games at CONSOL. The Dukes are 2-2 with wins over Dayton (2010-11) & Penn State (2011-12) and losses to West Virginia (2010-11) & Xavier (2010-11).

• The Dukes, who ranked 337th of 338th schools in rebounding margin last season (-7.5 rpg.), are outrebounding opponents by +5.3 margin - a net improvement of 12.8 rebounds per game. DU has outrebounded two opponents by 20 or more (+24  vs. Youngstown State and +26 vs. New Orleans).

• Freshmen Derrick Colter (10.4 ppg.), Quevyn Winters (9.7), and Jeremiah Jones (7.3) have accounted for 39 percent of DU's scoring.

Sean Johnson, who will be playing in his 103rd game, became the 37th 1,000-point scorer in school history with a game-high 21 vs. New Orleans on Saturday. Johnson enters the WVU game with 1,016 points (he needs 19 to pass Ed Dahler and move into the No. 34 spot).

Dukes Come Up Short Against West Virginia
Jonnie West led West Virginia's comeback from a 12-point deficit, putting the Mountaineers ahead to stay by making two free throws with 3:04 remaining and scoring all 10 of his points in the second half of a 64-61 victory over Duquesne on Sunday night.

• Duquesne, which is 4-1 at home, 1-2 on the road and 0-1 at neutral sites, has been in Pittsburgh since Nov. 29. DU will not leave the City of Pittsburgh again until Dec. 20 (for its Dec. 22 game at Louisiana-Lafayette). Following the WVU game, DU plays at cross-town Robert Morris on Dec. 15 and hosts Western Michigan at Palumbo on Dec. 19. DU's last road game was Nov. 28 at Appalachian State.

• The Dukes return two starters - Sean Johnson (12.9, 4.9) and forward Andre Marhold (5.9, 5.2) - from last year's 16-15 team. Ten players have seen action in each of the Dukes' first nine games.

• Six different players led the Dukes in scoring in their first seven games (Sean Johnson (twice), Andre Marhold, Derrick Colter, Quevyn Winters, Jerry Jones and Jeremiah Jones). Seven different players have also led the Dukes in rebounding in a game at least once.

• Duquesne has outscored opponents 252-162 in bench points (28.0-to-18.0 per game). That's an average of +10.0 ppg.

• Duquesne is 5-0 when scoring 70 or more and 5-0 when leading at the half ... in an oddity of sorts, the Dukes are 0-4 when holding opponents under 70 points.

Staten was part of a Dayton team that suffered an 82-64 defeat at the hands of the Dukes on Jan. 30, 2011 at CONSOL Energy Center. The Dayton, Ohio native had four points in a team-high 28 minutes for the Flyers. Staten bounced back to score 13 in the rematch - a 64-63 Dayton win at UD Arena two week's later. Staten scored five points in the final 1:24 to help Dayton rally from a six-point deficit. Murray went 0-2 vs. the Dukes while at La Salle. He had 13 points and seven rebounds in a 103-82 loss at the Palumbo Center in 2010 and six points in 30 minutes of an 88-71 home loss to the Dukes the following season. The coach who went 3-1 vs. Staten and Murray's teams while at Duquesne is first-year WVU assistant Ron Everhart. Everhart went 99-89 as head coach at Duquesne from 2006-07 through 2011-12.
