Jackson Named Atlantic 10 co-Player of the Week
Dec. 14, 2008
PITTSBURGH - Duquesne senior Aaron Jackson (Hartford, Conn./Worcester (Mass.) Academy) has been named Atlantic 10 co-Player of the Week for his performance in DU's two games last week. The 6-4 guard shot .800 from the field (20-of-25) while averaging 27.5 points 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds as DU split a pair of games. Jackson put on the top shooting display by a Duquesne player in 35 years in hitting 15-of-17 shots for a career-high 36 points in DU's win at Radford. His .882 field goal percentage tied the school record set by Ruben Montanez at Saint Peter's on Feb. 17, 1973. Jackson, whose previous career high was 22, scored 20 in the first half and did not miss a shot (6-of-6) in the second. He followed that by scoring a game-high 19 points in DU's five-point loss to West Virginia on Saturday. Jackson went 6-of-7 from the 3-point arc and 9-of-11 from the foul line for the week. Jackson, who shares this week's honor with Temple guard Dionte Christmas, is the second Duquesne player to earn Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors this season, joining Damian Saunders who earned the honor on Nov. 30. This is the third time Jackson - a four-year starter - has earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Week. He was named twice during his sophomore season. Jackson is now tied with Mark Stevenson (1990) and Derrick Alston (1991-94) for third-most career A-10 POW honors. Only Bruce Atkins (six times from 1979-82) and Tom Pipkins (four times from 1994-97) have earned the award more since Duquesne began league play in 1976-77. Jackson, who has never missed a game in his DU career (94 in a row), leads the Dukes in scoring (18.0 ppg.), assists (5.8 apg.) and steals (2.6 spg.). He is shooting .588 from the field, .400 from the 3-point arc and .783 from the foul line this season. Duquesne (5-3) returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at home against Old Dominion. Tip time is 7:00 p.m.
