Colter Named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for Second Consecutive Week

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne freshman guard Derrick Colter (Forestville, Md./Largo) has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week it was announced today. He is is 12th player in school history to earn A-10 Rookie of the Week honors multiple times. The 5-11, 175-pounder averaged 25.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a win over Western Michigan and loss at Louisiana-Lafayette. Colter, who shot .586 (17-29) - including 7-of-15 from the 3-point arc - for the week, scored a career high 25 points in each of the two games. He went 9-of-17 from the floor with four 3-pointers, six rebounds and three assists against WMU and matched that point total with 25 more on 8-of-12 shooting at UL. Colter is the first Duke to to be named outright A-10 Rookie of the week in back-to-back weeks since Robert Mitchell on January 28 & February 4 of 2007. T.J. McConnell, earned A-10 rookie honors five times in 2010-11 - including four consecutive weeks - but two of those were shared. Colter, who has scored in double digits in five consecutive games, leads the Dukes with a 13.2 ppg. scoring average. He has led the Dukes in single-game scoring a team-high five times and assists a team-best 10 times. Duquesne (7-6) returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 29 at Penn State.
