Dick Hopkins brings nearly 30 years of college coaching experience to the Duquesne staff.

Hopkins, who has worked on the defensive side of the ball at 11 different schools since 1981, will coordinate the Dukes' defense and work with the defensive backs. He comes to Duquesne after serving as defensive coordinator at Chattanooga last season. Hopkins, who was a quarterback and tight end at Florida State in the early 1970s, has served as defensive coordinator at Duke (1981-82), Cincinnati (1983), Rice (1984-85), Vanderbilt (1986-88), Yale (1993), James Madison (1999-03), The Citadel (2004-05) and Rhode Island (2006-07) in addition to Chattanooga. He also coached the secondary at both Temple (1989-92) and Tulane (1994-98).

A Toledo, Ohio, native, Hopkins earned his bachelor's degree in physical education in 1974 and his master's degree in mass communication in 1975. Both degrees were awarded at Florida State. During his sophomore season, Hopkins and the Seminoles participated in the very first Fiesta Bowl game, losing to eighth-ranked Arizona State, 45-38 in 1971.

Upon graduation, he settled in West Palm Beach, Fla., and coached at both Forest Hill and Twin Lakes High Schools.

Born Oct. 9, 1951, Hopkins is married to the former Debbie Liming of Mt. Orab, Ohio. The couple has four children, Erica, Amy, Geoffrey and Kelley and one grandson, Gunnar.
