Dave Loya, one of the top quarterbacks in Duquesne history, is in his second stint as a member of the Dukes' coaching staff. Loya, who coached DU's quarterbacks in 2003 and 2004, rejoined the staff to work with receivers four years ago.
Loya came to Duquesne with seven years of coaching experience including six at his alma mater - East Allegheny High School - and one year at Baldwin High School.
The North Versailles, Pa. native played a key role in DU's rise to prominence at the I-AA Mid-Major level in guiding Duquesne to MAAC titles in 1995 and 1996. A two-time co-captain, Loya was 30-7 as a starter. He also helped lead Duquesne to a school record 19 consecutive wins during the 1995 and 1996 seasons. Upon completion of his career in 1997, Loya held 13 of a possible 15 school passing records. As quarterbacks coach at Duquesne, he helped former assistant coach Niel Loebig break a number of his school marks.
Loya completed his degree in elementary and special education in `97 and was inducted to the Duquesne Sports Hall of Fame in November 2008.
