Mauro Monz, a standout defensive back for Duquesne from 1992-95, is back for his second season as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at his alma mater .

Monz came to the Dukes after serving an 11-month stint as assistant recruiting coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh, where he helped the Panthers land a recruiting class ranked in the Top 25 nationally. He also accompanied the team to the 2000 Bowl.

Before joining the staff at Pitt, Monz served as quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator at Robert Morris University where he was part of four Northeast Conference championship teams. In 1999 he served as quarterbacks and special teams coach for Team USA in the Team USA vs. Team Florida college all-star game.

Monz, a two-time first team All-MAAC defensive back for the Dukes in 1994 and 1995, was an important part of DU's first MAAC championship team in '95. He finished his career second on DU's all-time list with 12 interceptions.

The 28-year-old Pittsburgh native played quarterback and defensive back for DU head coach Greg Gattuso at Seton-La Salle High School in 1991.

Monz, who earned his undergraduate degree in elementary education in the fall of `96, completed work on a master's degree in instructional leadership at Robert Morris in 1999. Monz and his wife, Dana, reside in Pittsburgh.
