Ryan Esdale, a two-time first team All-MAAC defensive lineman and three-year starter for the Dukes from 2003-06, is in his third season on the DU staff and second year as defensive line coach.

Esdale earned second team All-American honors as a team captain in 2006. As a junior, he anchored the line for a Duquesne defense that led the nation in total defense, rushing defense and pass efficiency defense. He capped his playing career by earning an invitation to the NFL Detroit Lions Rookie Mini Camp in 2007. Esdale was also a standout in the classroom where he became just the fourth player in DU football history to earn Academic All-America honors when he was named to the national second team in 2005.

The 24-year-old Succasunna, N.J. native was part of four MAAC Championship teams including the 2003 Mid-Major National Champions.

Esdale, who completed his undergraduate degree in secondary education/citizenship in the spring of 2007, is working toward his master's degree in school counseling.
