Jon Tekac is in his second season as the coach of DU's tight ends. Tekac comes to the Bluff from Warriors Bologna of the Italian Football League where he served as both a player and a coach in 2005 and 2006. He continued as head coach of the Ravenna Chiefs in the spring and summer of 2007. The Pulaski, Pa. native got his start in coaching in 2004 as the wide receivers coach under Jerry Schmitt at Westminster College. A standout linebacker at Youngstown State - where he played two seasons under current Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel - Tekac lead the team in tackles his junior year. As team captain his senior season, he earned second team all-conference and second team all academic-honors as well as leading the Penguins in tackles and sacks. After finishing at Youngstown State, the Wilmington (Pa.) High School graduate played one year at the arenafootball2 level for the Memphis Xplorers before his career with Warriors Bologna. Tekac, 28, resides in Pulaski, Pennsylvania. |
