Pittsburgh native Ray Zellars, who enjoyed a four-year NFL career with the New Orleans Saints, is in his first season as running backs coach at Duquesne.

Zellars, who played collegiately at Notre Dame, comes to Duquesne after coaching at his alma mater, Pittsburgh's Oliver High School.

Zellars began his playing career at Oliver where he was a two-year captain and two-time Pittsburgh Press and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette all-city selection. A four-year letterman at tailback, linebacker, cornerback, quarterback, punter and placekicker, Zellars helped lead Oliver to the 1991 City League championship game.

Following graduation, Zellars continued his playing career at Notre Dame under Lou Holtz where he started at fullback as a junior and senior. While at Notre Dame, Zellars was part of four bowl teams (Sugar Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Cotton Bowl and Fiesta Bowl) and was also a starter for the last ND team to hold a No. 1 national ranking (late November of 1993).

Zellars, who was rated as the third-best collegiate tailback by The Sporting News entering his senior season, was drafted in the second round by the Saints (44th pick overall) in the 1995 NFL draft. He played for the Saints from 1995-98, gaining a career-best 552 yards on 156 carries in 1997.

Zellars, who finished his business management degree at Notre Dame in 1995, resides in Pittsburgh.
