Coach Greg Gattuso
Sept. 20, 2003
Duquesne Head Coach Greg Gattuso:
"The first time you play out of your league against a great football team, its difficult. They were better than us on the offensive front. That was evident. In the third quarter, I think we had three turnovers on five plays and you can't do that against good people. I was disappointed to lose as bad as we did, but it was a great experience for our kids to play the University of Pennsylvania and at Franklin Field."
On not throwing as much as usual (18 att.): "We were very concerned about protection. Our quarterback took some hellacious shots early in the game. I didn't want to keep exposing him to those kind of hits.
"We kind of got swarmed in the first quarter, it was a good job on their part. We had the ball on their 17 yard line with a chance to make it 20-17 and we couldn't take advantage of it."
Quarterback Niel Loebig:
"I think we were a little nervous going in and their speed on the first couple of series' got to us." On an interception at the Penn 3 yard line with DU down 20-10 in the second quarter: "I had a play called and checked it at the line of scrimmage. Their 'mike' linebacker dropped and I didn't see him."
