Dukes Complete Weekend Sweep of Fordham with 20-17 Football Win
Oct. 7, 2006
Bronx, N.Y. - Quarterback Scott Knapp completed a school record 35 passes - including three second-half touchdowns - and linebacker Greg Hough added a key fourth quarter interception to help Duquesne to a come-from-behind 20-17 win at Fordham.
Knapp, who finished with 363 yards passing, gave the Dukes a 13-10 lead when he found freshman Sean Bunevich from seven-yards out to make the score 13-10 with 9:27 left.
On Fordham's next possession, Hough put an end to a 10-play drive by stepping in front of a John Skelton pass at the Duquesne 20 and returning to the DU 40. Knapp then drove the Dukes 60 yards in five plays, the last of which was a 16-yard touchdown pass to Bruce Hocker to make it 20-10 with 3:09 remaining.
Fordham answered with a 61-yard drive capped by a one-yard James Prydatko touchdown run to make it 20-17 with under a minute left.
Duquesne's Kyle Postell covered the ensuing onside kick to seal the win.
Neither team could do much offensively in the first half that ended with Fordham up 3-0. Duquesne outgained the Rams 175-47 in the opening 30 minutes, but a pair of turnovers crippled DU's scoring chances.
The second half was all Knapp as the Pittsburgh native hit Dan Spriggs with an 11-yard touchdown pass with 2:22 left in the third quarter to give the Dukes their first lead of the game. Punter David Kovalcik was wide right on the extra point to make the score 6-3.

Knapp then hit Conrad Carter with a 28-yard pass to the Fordham seven and followed that with the scoring toss to Bunevich. The catch was Bunevich's first at Duquesne.
Knapp, who completed passes to 10 different receivers, finished the game 35-of-48 for 363 yards and three touchdowns. Hocker led all receivers with a career-best 10 catches for 125 yards. Spriggs added seven grabs for 75 yards for the Dukes.
Jeremy McCullough led the Duquesne ground game with 43 yards on 14 carries.
Mykol Gardiner finished with nine tackles, including 2.5 sacks to lead the Duquesne defense. Hough also added a sack to go along with his momentum-changing interception.
Duquesne, who outgained Fordham 404-258, enjoyed a 20-11 advantage in first downs. DU also held the ball for nearly seven minutes more than Fordham (33:38 to 26:32).
