Duquesne-Iona Postgame Quotes

Oct. 9, 2004

Recap |  Box Score |  Notes

Duquesne Head Coach Greg Gattuso:

"I thought Jeremy McCullough and James Jacobs ran the ball well. I also thought Niel Loebig did a great job today. We asked him to look to run a little more and he did. When you have a quarterback who can gain 10 yards and move the sticks it can destroy a defense."

    On the defense:

"Our defense has struggled a little bit. It was good to see them play the way they did, especially in the second half.

On the injury to Michel Warfield:

"Obviously we're concerned. We just don't know the extent of the injury yet. It is just impossible to tell right now. Of the remaining receivers we have one sophomore and the rest are freshmen, but they are all very talented. They made some big catches in the third and fourth quarters. If Michel is unable to play, those guys will have to do that.

Duquesne quarterback Niel Loebig on his rushing performance:

"Everyone is making fun of me right now, but it felt really good to run the ball a little bit." On the loss of Warfield: "Losing Mike was tough. They were double teaming him and that was enabling us to do a lot of things. We had some young guys step up and make some big catches and that's what we needed."

Duquesne defensive end Ryan Tolan who finished with a game-high 3 sacks:

"We thought we'd be able to get pressure on them. We were able to run some stunts and get pressure on the quarterback. It took us a while to get going. About mid-way through the second quarter we started to play better. It feels good to get back on the field and play well. We have got to stay consistent and keep working hard."
