Duquesne-Iona Postgame Notes
Sophomore Quarterback Niel Loebig
Nov. 2, 2002
Duquesne set the following records in the win:
- Jeremy Conley (7-103) passed Gerald Foster (2,472 yards from 1996-99) to become Duquesne's all-time leader in receiving yards with 2,501.
- Leigh Bodden (3 ints for 80 yds) tied the school record with three interceptions. In the process he upped his school-record career total to 27. Bodden needs one more pick to tie the I-AA career record of 28 set by Holy Cross' Dave Murphy (1986-89).
- Niel Loebig (right), who was 21-of-35 for 274 yards and 5 TDs, tied the school record for touchdown passes in a game with five (7, 46, 13, 13, 6). Tony Zimmerman set the mark with five TDs vs. Marist in 2000.
The victory upped Duquesne's MAAC Football League win streak to 22 games.
The Dukes have now outscored their MAAC opponents by a 235-27 count through six games.
Duquesne's top-ranked defense forced six Iona turnovers (5 ints and 1 fumble).
Iona finished the game with 51 yards rushing on 30 attempts.
Junior running back Mike Hilliard (Homer Center, Pa./Homer Center) carried 36 times for 205 yards and two scores. The carries and yardage total are both career highs. It was his team-high fifth 100-yard game of the season and fourth two-touchdown game. Hilliard has rushed for 327 yards and four TDs in his last two games.
Junior wide receiver Yardon Brantley (Reading, Pa./Reading Central Catholic) caught seven passes for a game and season-high 114 yards. It was his first 100-yard game of the season and sixth of his career.
Sophomore quarterback Niel Loebig (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) completed 21-of-35 passes for 274 yards and five touchdowns in just over three quarters of action. His five TD tosses tied the school record of five set by Tony Zimmerman vs. Marist in 2000. Loebig has now thrown for two or more TDs in 16 of his 19 regular-season starts. It was his second consecutive game without an interception.
Senior wide receiver Jeremy Conley (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) caught seven passes for 103 yards and two scores (46, 13). He broke the school record for receiving yards on the 46-yard TD. Conley now has 130 catches for 2,501 yards (19.2 ypc.) and 27 TDs in his career.
