Dukes Complete MAAC Sweep With 31-6 Win At Marist

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Niel Loebig completed 23-of-35 passes for 354 yards and three touchdowns to lead Duquesne to a 31-6 win at Marist. The victory extended DU's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League winning streak to 29 games and in the process completed Duquesne's fourth consecutive unbeaten league season. Loebig, who completed scoring passes of 27 yards to Loran Cooley, 7 yards to Michel Warfield and 28 yards to Yardon Brantley, went over the 20 touchdown pass mark for the third time in three seasons at Duquesne.
DU opened the scoring when Mike Hilliard completed a 74-yard drive with a 10-yard touchdown run to put the Dukes up 7-0 early in the second quarter. The TD was Hilliard's 14th of the season, tying the school single-season record for rushing touchdowns. Hilliard, who also ran for 14 TD's last year, finished the game with 159 yards on 26 carries.
DU upped its lead to 10-0 on a 21-yard John Harris field goal before Loebig ran a flawless two-minute offense, covering 67 yards in just over a minute before hitting Cooley for a score with 9 seconds left in the half. Loebig added his last two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to up the lead to 31-0.
Marist's James Luft scored on a 1-yard run with 2:22 left for the final margin. Randy Vulakovich led Duquesne's receivers with seven catches for 67 yards. Cooley added a career high six catches for a career best 78 yards. Warfield finished with five catches for 120 yards and Brantley caught four balls for 77 yards.
Duquesne scored all 31 of its points going with a wind that gusted to 20 miles per hour during the game. The Dukes outgained Marist 518 to 308. Michael Hill led the defense with nine tackles including two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery. Tim Pichette and R.J. Romano added seven stops each. Michael Ford and Harry Carter added one interception apiece.
The win increases Duquesne's record to 6-3, 5-0 in the MAAC while Marist is now 3-6, 2-3 in league play. The Dukes, who previously clinched the MAAC spot in the ECAC Classic, return home to take on local rival Robert Morris at 7:00 p.m. on Rooney Field next Saturday, November 15th. The Dukes will host the yet-to-be-determined NEC champion the following Saturday, Nov. 22, at 1:00 p.m. in the ECAC postseason game also on Rooney Field.
