Dukes Lose Season Finale to Bucknell, 30-20

The Duquesne University football team outgained Bucknell 360-335, but lost the turnover battle 5-1 in losing its season finale to the visiting Bison, 30-20 on Rooney Field.
Bucknell's senior option quarterback Daris Wilson put the Bison on the board first on a 12-yard run with 3:48 remaining in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead. The Bison found the end zone again early in the second quarter as 6-1, 270-pound senior defensive lineman Corey Mayo powered in from the one to give BU a 14-0 advantage.
Duquesne, which was fruitless on its first four posessions, lit the scoreboard with 7:34 remaining in the half as senior quarterback Niel Loebig connected with freshman receiver Alex Roberson on an 18-yard strike to cut the deficit in half.
Wilson struck again though on Bucknell's next posession on a one-yard run to put the Bison up 21-7, then scored again with 2:32 left in the half on a Joe Glenn 53-yard interception return to take a 27-7 lead into the half.
Bucknell expanded its lead to 30-7 as Ryan Korn sent a 42-yard field goal through the uprights at the 5:57 mark of the third quarter, before sophomore Jeremy McCullough pulled the Dukes to within two posessions on a two-yard run with 0:36 left in the third. Loebig hooked up one last time with senior wideout Michel Warfield with 15 seconds remaining in the contest to narrow the BU lead to 10, but the two-point conversion attempt failed as well as the onside kick to end the day's scoring.
Wilson led the Bison with 143 yards on the ground on 32 carries and two scores while McCullough had 91 yards on 22 carries with one TD.Loebig was 22-36 passing for 239 yards and one touchdown aeriel, Wilson was 5-6 for 80 yards and no scores. The Dukes ended the season at 7-3 while Bucknell finished the 2004 campaign at 7-4.
