PITTSBURGH - Duquesne University, the DU Department of Athletics and the Dukes football program is mourning the loss of 2011 graduate Marek Lapinski who passed away unexpectedly on March 24.

Lapinski, the starting fullback for the Dukes from 2007-10, was 24. He was living in the San Diego area where he was the Director of Corporate Development for Tactical 3rd Dimension Systems.

Lapinski, who attended North Allegheny High School, graduated from the School of Business with a double major in finance and investment management in May of 2011.

Duquesne Head Football Coach Jerry Schmitt
"Marek and his family will be in our thoughts and prayers for a long time. I can't help but remember Marek's positive outlook and the way he attacked life - always with great humility and a smile. He had a tremendous impact on all who had the opportunity to know him. We in the Duquesne Football family, past and present, join the Lapinski family in mourning this loss. We are deeply saddened yet blessed to have had Marek as part of our lives."

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, April 12 at 11 a.m. in the St. Stanislaus Church, 21st and Smallman St. in the Strip District. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made at mareklapinski.org.
