Dillon Buechel connected with Chris King for an 80-yard touchdown pass on the first play of a 30-minute controlled scrimmage to highlight Duquesne's spring football practice finale Saturday evening at Rooney Field.

The Dukes took the field for typical warm-ups at 4:00, then proceeded to go through a first half of 1 on 1's, red zone drills, 7 on 7's and two minute drills.

After a halftime that paid tribute to the departing seniors and a balloon release in memory of former manager Ryan Fleming and former player Chris Johnson, the Dukes got at it in a 30-minute running clock controlled scrimmage.

Starting at his own 20 yard line, returning quarterback Dillon Buechel made a statement by hitting receiver Chris King on an 80-yard touchdown strike to kick off the scrimmage.

Buechel and Ryan Egolf shared the helm on the next four possessions with Egolf completing four of seven passes for 42 yards and a number of running backs collecting yardage on the ground.

Klartel Claridy had four carries for 29 yards, Zach DeNardo contributed five carries for 29 yards and Tamir Turpin chipped in six totes for 22 yards.

Sherman Harris led in receptions with three for 26 yards.

Defensively, Penn State transfer Carter Henderson shined with nine tackles. He was followed by Paul Mania with five stops. Anthony Alimenti and Rob Marra added two tackles apiece.

The only other scoring play of the game was a 31-yard field goal by Markus Colin on the fifth of six offensive drives of the scrimmage.

The Dukes open the season on Saturday, Sept. 5 as they host Kentucky Christian at Rooney Field.
