Buechel to Participate in Steelers Rookie Camp
May 11, 2017
PITTSBURGH - Duquesne University quarterback Dillon Buechel (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) will join teammate Wayne Capers Jr. (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) at Pittsburgh Steelers rookie mini camp this weekend.
The record-setting quarterback is the fourth Duke invited to an NFL camp this spring. Last weekend, linebacker Christian Kuntz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) and offensive lineman Larson Graham (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) took part in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie mini camp.
Buechel, a four-year starter, finished his career as the leading passer in Northeast Conference history with 10,320 yards. The 6-4, 200-pounder led the Dukes to three Northeast Conference championships (2013-co, 2015 & 2016-co) including the school's first FCS Playoff appearance (2015) on the way to setting school records for career passing yards, completions (801) and attempts (1,380).
Buechel left the Bluff as the owner of three of the top eight passing yardage seasons and two of the top five passing yardage games in school history. The only player in school history with two six-touchdown pass games, Buechel was a three-time All-NEC pick (second team as a freshman and junior and first team as a senior).
A finalist for the 2016 STATS FCS Walter Payton Award (FCS Offensive Player of the Year), Buechel finished his career with a 133.1 efficiency rating, 58.0 completion percentage and 75 touchdown passes. He threw for at least one score in 35 of the 42 games he played.
