PITTSBURGH - Duquesne University head football coach Jerry Schmitt has added Bret Colbert and Tony Papley to the 2014 coaching staff.

Colbert, who most recently served as offensive coordinator at Saint Vincent College, will serve as a defensive assistant, while Papley, who just finished his playing career at Slippery Rock, will be a graduate assistant defensive line coach.

Colbert held the titles of wide receivers coach, recruiting coordinator and video coordinator prior to being elevated to offensive coordinator in 2011. He began at Saint Vincent in 2007.

Prior to moving to Latrobe, Pa., Colbert worked as an offensive assistant/video coordinator at Cornell. He also served as a video graduate assistant at Pitt from 2004 through March of 2006.

Colbert played at William & Mary for two years before transferring to Bridgewater College where he started at receiver and helped the Eagles to the Division III quarterfinal in 2002 and semifinal in 2003.

He completed his undergraduate degree in health and exercise science in 2004.

Papley served as defensive tackles coach at Slippery Rock this spring. He was a three-year letterman at SRU, where he earned first team All-PSAC West honors. Papley was part of two Western Division championship teams as a player.

He completed his degree in parks and resource management in December of 2013.

Duquesne, which returns 16 position starters from last year's Northeast Conference co-championship team, reports for camp on Sunday, August 3. The Dukes open the 2014 season at Buffalo of the Mid-American Conference on Saturday, August 30. The UB game will be DU's first against a Bowl Championship Subdivision team.
